FK day 9 : peace & conflict
May 28, 2009 at 11:28 pm (Uncategorized)
Well, last two days were pretty amazing.. thanks Peter. But not today, though we enjoyed a movie ‘Crash’ – interesting. Very good cinematography i would say. There was no long story, a number of plots which are slightly connected, more of a documentary style.
Its about suspicion, racism among people and stereotyping. Its about people not having belief in human and getting that belief back. Almost every character in this movie is changed after facing some consequence.
I don’t feel +ve about rest of the day. We had discussions that we already had last week. And I think I’m not convinced by the presentation skill of course coordinator.
We had a football tournament. We…..international party won again.. Woooo hoooooo..

Someone from our fk participants told me that he thought Rosa is a bit reserved, she seems aggressive. But she seems most friendly to me among African girls. And she is very emotional. Going to Ethiopia, she is from Nairobi, Kenya. She will be working on some peace issue.
FK day 8 : Mask me
May 27, 2009 at 10:42 pm (Uncategorized)
Peter, our psychologist is a wonderful in acting. He was impersonating someone who just failed FK exchange program and back from India. He was wearing different masks with different expressions.
And acting according to that expression. He was so good at this that someone from was reacting accordingly. Like when he was babbling around without any point, we all got impatient.
Definitely, we all have a mixture of those behaviors. When we get stressed some of those becomes prominent. I think when i don’t feel easy or get stressed i just hide myself behind the wall. I try get myself busy with surroundings, my cell phone and with something that is not important. But when i was younger, anger was prominent in me. i can remember i had a habit of tearing papers when i got angry
That seems funny to me now..
Last time i played mafia… Its been couple of months. I never hoped that i could play mafia while I’m abroad. At end of the day, Peter started playing mafia. But its a big team for playing mafia.. 28. But there were 3 person in mafia. That’s good.
Back in my home, when we played mafia with 7-9 people and we all know each other very well, it became a tough psychological exercise, and more entertaining. Then it was hard to hide myself if i were a mafia..
FK day 7: Yet another psychologist
May 26, 2009 at 8:24 pm (Uncategorized)
We met two more psychologist today peter and peter. Both are peter
. I was pretty surprised to see one peter coz he is very similar to Dr. house from tv series House MD. And also his attitude is like House when he makes jokes. I’m a big fan of Dr. House. So, i was really enjoying.. a lot.
Good thing.. he didn’t bore us with academic things. Rather played some name games like we played on very first day.. but a bit different. Then he let us discover what different feelings we had in the game..what our behavior was like. Those things might come when we are in stress level.
we played getting in the circle game. Couple of us were out of the circle. and they didn’t know how to get in the circle. They had to discover how to do that. That’s we will have to do. Getting in the circle of a different culture. We had more funny games.. never played before..
FK day 6 : partner day
May 25, 2009 at 6:22 pm (Uncategorized)
Oooh.. in this weekend i had more struggle than weekdays.. i was really tired. But it was an easy day for me. Its partner day. Settle up everything with my company or partner representative. We had all sorted out when we left Dhaka. Tom Handegard was here from Escneic AS. It was interesting meeting. He was open and responsive.
Here is Heather heather heather. She is Canadian. Reminds me of Robin in TV series ‘How i met your mother’. They don’t look alike. But i find similarity in accents. That could be Canadian accent.

She is going to Colombia to work in SMS based service company. Recently married. I found her very creative and i saw her expressing her ideas well organized. I wish i could borrow that from her :-S
FK day 3
May 20, 2009 at 12:49 am (Uncategorized)
Our third day in fk starts with a refreshing muzc from svein, Ola and Camilla. That was a Norwegian morning instrumental.
Svein is really into music. He has researches on music and does workshop on music of different culture. He is going to work in Nepal. He does yoga. And he thinks it helps him doing his work in muzc.
We had a researcher among us from University of Oslo. He shared us with ideas related to poverty and development. I think its his research Area. It was much interactive but i was really into this thing. And he was talking about poverty in places like norwegian face poverty. But i dont think norwegian poverty is not we really mean by poverty, what we really struggle to solve.
Here is sonveig. She is a scientist. Got specialty in Gene related stuff.
She’s going to work in zambia. Both norway and zambia have laws against gene modified food import. They are against changing what the nature have for us. But that’s not the case we have our country. We need to do more research on development of good genre of crops.

May 18, 2009 at 10:56 pm (Uncategorized)
We started our activities in two teams 29 each.
We’ve got Henrick as our course coordinator. Here is another coordinator Peter who was with other team. We are in a big room. People from different places.. anzania, Nepal, Norway, South Africa, Kenya..
So, what to start with, we started with tagging ourselves
we put name labels on our jackets. we tried to get introduced with all the people. could not remember all the people. How to remember??? lets draw some faces.. Thats what we tried to do? And the outcome was portrait of some devil like things
We had to form some activity group. I was confused which group to join? News group and Sports group seemed interesting but i could not decide. It was late. Henrick put me in International party. Yeah we have interesting people in International party group.. Ola, Evin, some other people and definitely Ola’s baby boy

Hotell Hadeland : FK starts
May 18, 2009 at 10:08 pm (Uncategorized)
I’m here in Norway in an FK exchange program. FredKorpset arranged a 3 week course on various topics relating peace, personal development.
I’ve been staying in Oslo for 4 days. Now I’ll go to Hadeland that’s more or less one hour far from Oslo.
Hotel Hadeland. Its in a very cool place. Our bus went uphill and reached Hotell Hadeland. The most beautiful view is from hotel veranda, we can see suburb and dwelling places all over the high places and a very beautiful lake. clouds are wandering around the hills. And its all green all over the hills.
The day i reached was very gloomy, clouds are all over the place and i was shivering and kicking myself for not bringing some warmer cloths. By the way, we start our activities by worshiping our stomach. its lunch time
soon we got together and found ourselves in a room with other FK participants.
Google Gears – features for performance web application
December 7, 2008 at 6:23 am (Uncategorized)
Tags: Gears, Google gears, Goolge, JavaScript, JavaScript API, Web application
What does web application gets from Google Gears?
Straight and simple as google says..
- Interect with Desktop
- Use gears local server for caching.
- Store data in offline mode and synchronize when online.
Last thing is seems most interesting to me.. I can use the webpages even if i am not connected to internet. Thats cool. I used an webapp that uses google gears http://www.rememberthemilk.com for this purpose.
[ Lightweight database on client Side ]
Gears uses SQLite for database support. And its secured, because a web application cannot access data outside of its domain. More importantly it supports fulltext search.
Using this Database API is very Simple Only two classes Database and ResultSet. Using this api is so simple i cant help copying the code. ![]()
// db is instance of Databasevar db = google.gears.factory.create('beta.database'); db.open('my-database');// rs is Instance of ResultSetvar rs = db.execute('select * from TestTable order by Timestamp desc');while (rs.isValidRow()) { alert(rs.field(0) + '@' + rs.field(1)); rs.next(); }
Its simple
. This feature is actually for storing user data in offline mode and when user is online, this information has to be synchronized. Still i am not clear enough about how synchronization should be done.
[ Another most interesting feature : LocalServer. ]
Pages and files/resources can be served in offline mode from Localserver. When localServer is configured to serve some url, it caches those files/resources with urls. Each time that url is requested localserver servers those resources/files without sending actual server request. Thats one cool thing.
How does Localserver know which urls to cache?A manifest file is used to tell the urls and version info of the urls. Local server gets the manifest file each time. And update resource from urls if it doesn’t have the latest version.
[ Using Google Gears in your page. ]
* Install Google gears first http://gears.google.com/
* Download this script gear_init.js
* Include this script in the page
=: First thing you should in your page is check whether this pc has google gears installed.
if (!window.google) {
alert("gear is not here!");
location.href = "http://gears.google.com/?action=install&return=http://yoursite.com";
}
=: How do you get the api implementation of Gears? Gears provides an Factory for this.
This is how you will get the LocalServer to cache files.
var localServer = google.gears.factory.create("beta.localserver");
And get the database..
var databae = google.gears.factory.create("beta.database");
Using these localserver and database is simple and i am not going to present them… google documented them good enough.
[ Other supports from Gears]
There are other supports like httpRequest, Timer. But they are not new in Javascript programming. Actually these are implemented to be used from Gears WorkerPool
For “Interect with Desktop” They should have said file access feature..
Because their implementation gives two feature.
- Can create shortcut in pc file system.
- get a file content from the pc files system. File content is served in Blob format.
Oh here is one thing new here “Blob“. That’s an implementation by Google Gear.
Javascript itself doesn’t have Blob support. Blob can be passed into, and returned by, a variety of Gears methods.
Other cool things in Google Gears are GeoLocation & Workerpool API. Hope to give a demonstration on those soon..
